One Foot In Chinatown, with Jean Kwok and Annie Ling

Is Chinatown a ghetto, an enclave, an opportunity, an obligation? If it was home once, is it always? Jean Kwok's new novel, Mambo in Chinatown, tells the story of a young woman hitting the ballroom scene while holding onto her family and the neighborhood she knows. She celebrates its release with a reading at AAWW. Annie Ling will open with a narrated slideshow of her photographs, offering a visual portrait of the spaces of Chinatown inhabited by Kwok's characters.

Photography, Expanded - The Story of Data

I am pleased to be participating in the upcoming Photography, Expanded lab workshop following this symposium focusing on data visualization, mapping and photography.

Photography, Expanded is an initiative designed to inspire documentary photographers to expand their storytelling beyond the still image and catalyze collaboration across disciplines. The program is produced by Magnum Foundation, Open Society Foundations Documentary Photography Project, New Arts Axis, Aperture Foundation, and Parsons The New School for Design.
